2-Day Tour in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Day 1: Exploring the Heart of Phnom Penh

Start your adventure with a visit to the Royal Palace, a stunning example of Cambodian architecture. This historic palace, built in the 1860s, is the official residence of the King of Cambodia. Don’t miss the Silver Pagoda, located within the palace grounds, where you can admire a collection of Buddhist treasures and its sparkling silver floor.

Next, head to the National Museum of Cambodia, a short walk from the Royal Palace. The museum boasts a remarkable collection of Khmer art, including sculptures, ceramics, and religious artifacts. It’s a great place to learn about the rich cultural heritage of the country.

In the afternoon, visit the Central Market (Phsar Thmei), an iconic art-deco building. This bustling market is perfect for those wanting to shop for souvenirs, including textiles, jewelry, and local crafts.

End your first day with a sunset cruise on the Mekong River. The views of the city’s skyline and the river are breathtaking, and it’s a peaceful way to experience Phnom Penh from the water.

Day 2: History and Reflection

On your second day, start with a visit to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, which was once the notorious S-21 Prison during the Khmer Rouge regime. This sobering site offers a profound look into Cambodia’s tragic past, with photographs and exhibits documenting the lives of those who suffered here.

Afterward, take a short trip to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, located just outside of Phnom Penh. This historical site is a reminder of the atrocities committed during the Khmer Rouge era, and it features mass graves, memorials, and a stupa filled with skulls. It’s a somber but essential visit for understanding Cambodia’s history.

In the late afternoon, take a stroll along the Sisowath Quay, a lively riverside promenade with cafes, bars, and restaurants. This is a great spot to relax and reflect on your time in the city.
