Pick up from the hotel and go to have breakfast if you did not eat already. This day provides a look at what happened to Cambodia during the Khmer Rouge time from 1975 to 1979, a horrible time in our history. It is sometimes a difficult tour for people but also essential to understand about our past. Our first stop is Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21), the former high school-turned-prison that was used by the Khmer Rouge from 1975 to 1979. After this, we will visit the Killing Fields, about 17 km south of Phnom Penh, where many of the victims from S21 were taken to be killed. Then we will stop for lunch. We will end our day with some quiet reflection time at Odna Loam Pagoda on the riverfront in Phnom Penh.
Pick up from your hotel before or after breakfast. Our first stop is the beautiful Royal Palace, best explored in the morning. We recommend hiring a guide so you get the most understanding of the palace and Silver Pagoda. We will then continue to the National Museum, a beautiful architectural space as well as housing many national treasures from temples around Cambodia. We will then go to either the Central Market or the Russian Market and explore some local cuisine by having lunch in the market. We will end our day with a drive along the riverside.
